Melodic Dictation
Listen to short melodies and write them down note by note.
Develop your melodic memory and your ability to recognise pitch.
How Melodic Dictation Works
Objective
Listen to a short melody and identify all the notes in the correct order.
How to Respond
1. Listen carefully to the melody
2. Click on the notes on the virtual keyboard in the order in which you heard them
3. You can listen to the tune as many times as you like
4. Once you have entered all your notes, you will receive feedback automatically
Tips
• Listen to the tune several times before answering
• Try singing or humming the tune
• Focus on one note at a time
• Use the keyboard to ‘test’ the notes (click to hear them)
• Start with simple melodic movements (consecutive degrees)
Progression
The levels gradually increase in difficulty: more notes, wider intervals, chromaticism.
